Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Lifts Flu-Related Visitor Restrictions

Cheyenne, WY Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has lifted flu-related restrictions on visitors 12 years of age and younger.

“The H1N1 flu outbreak in this region has declined in the past month so we are now allowing children 12 and younger to visit many of our inpatient areas,” said Stacy Farman, Infection Preventionist at Cheyenne Regional.

Flu-related restrictions for children 12 and younger were instituted at Cheyenne Regional in September to prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu. Children in the 12 and under age group are among those most at-risk to carry and transmit the H1N1 flu.

General visiting restrictions in place before the outbreak of H1N1 flu will continue. These restrictions are considered best medical practices and have been put in place to protect both the patient and visitors:

Intensive Care Unit
No children under 12
Only 2 family members are allowed to visit a patient at a time
No visitors after 10 p.m. or overnight staysNo live flowers

Mother/Baby
Maximum of 3 visitors at a time: One person wearing an Infant ID bracelet (banded) plus 2 additional visitors
Siblings allowed but must be accompanied by an adult wearing an Infant ID bracelet
No children under 14 unless they are siblings
No visitors after 10 p.m. unless they are wearing an Infant ID bracelet

Nursery
Maximum of 2 visitors at a time: One adult wearing an Infant ID bracelet plus one additional visitor
Every visitor must wash hands and wear a gown upon entering the nursery

Pediatric Unit
Only primary caregivers allowed to visit children with a contagious illness
All non-contagious patients can have a maximum of 3 visitors at a time: One person wearing an Infant ID bracelet (banded) plus 2 additional visitors
No children under 14 unless they are siblings (and only if the patient does not have a contagious illness)

All Inpatient Units
No visitors after 10 p.m.

Outpatient Clinics
One adult can accompany the patient
No children under 12 (unless the child is the patient)

Visitors who have flu-like symptoms are asked not to come to the hospital unless they are seeking treatment. Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body/muscle aches, chills, nausea or vomiting.

Flu-related restrictions have been lifted recently by several large hospital systems along the Front Range of Colorado.
