Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Selected to Manage
Laramie County Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program

Cheyenne, WYThe Wyoming Department of Health has selected Cheyenne Regional Medical Center to manage the Laramie County Women Infants and Children (WIC) Program. Cheyenne Regional began administering the program on January 1.

“By integrating WIC with Cheyenne Regional’s Women and Children’s Services, the hospital can help maximize health outcomes for women, infants and young children through coordination of prenatal education, lactation services and pediatric health education,” said Sunny Kaste, RN, clinical development specialist at Cheyenne Regional. Kaste is coordinating the WIC transition.

WIC provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, healthcare referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.

WIC locations, hours and services will continue as they have, said Kaste. WIC is located at 1307 Crook Ave. in Cheyenne and also serves families stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. On base, WIC is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The Crook Ave. location is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

More than 2,750 women, infants and children up to age five use Laramie County WIC services each month. It’s estimated that about 40% of Laramie County’s pregnant women use WIC throughout the year.

“Cheyenne Regional is working closely with the Wyoming Department of Health to ensure continuity of this vital public health nutrition program,” said Kaste.

The Wyoming Department of Health provides funding for the Laramie County program.
