Have a Heart: Community Activities Planned for Heart Month

Cheyenne, WY – As part of American Heart Month in February, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and the Wyoming Heart & Vascular Institute encourage community members to think about how their lifestyle impacts their heart—and to find ways to ensure the health of their heart. Following are outreaches, workshops, screenings and support groups that can help.

Wear Red on February 5 – National “Go Red for Women: Wear Red Day”
Each year 435,000 American women have a heart attack—and 38 percent of them will die within a year. Among all U.S. women who die each year, one in four dies of heart disease. To raise awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women (and men) in the United States, the American Heart Association has declared February 5 National “Go Red for Women: Wear Red Day.” Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and the Wyoming Heart & Vascular Institute encourage you to wear your favorite red clothing or accessories (wear a red lapel pin, put on red lipstick, don a red tie or red socks, wear a red dress, blouse, scarf or accessories or carry a red purse) on February 5 to support the fight against heart disease in women.

Become Tobacco-Free
Cigarette smoking’s adverse effects account for 440,000 deaths, or nearly one of every five deaths, each year in the United States. Cigarette smokers are also two to four times more likely to develop coronary heart disease than nonsmokers. If you use tobacco and would like to quit, there is help. Contact the Wyoming Quit Tobacco program at 1-800-Quit-Now or go to www.quitnet.com.
