Cheyenne Regional Board Votes to Expand Downtown
Decision Comes after Months of Analysis

Cheyenne, Wyo. - The Board of Trustees of Cheyenne Regional Medical Center voted tonight to expand its facilities at the downtown location. This decision comes after months of careful analysis, which included input from physicians, employees, volunteers, local officials and community members.

“Both options that were considered offer value to the community. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center needs a path for future growth, and expanding the hospital downtown is simply a better choice for our patients and the community as a whole,” said Paul Howard, president of the hospital’s board of trustees.

One campus offers an easier transition for patients who must move between outpatient and inpatient services. Locating services on one campus is also expected to reduce operational costs because services aren’t duplicated and employees won’t have to travel between two main campuses. With greater efficiencies, the hospital expects operating costs to decrease by 10 to 12 percent.

Another advantage to option one is that it provides for more beds in areas of immediate need, including the emergency department and the intensive and progressive care units.

“We want to emphasize that this is just the start of the process. Up to this point, planning has been broad-based. Now we must prioritize what specifically will be constructed or remodeled, based on the most urgent needs of the community and the hospital’s budget constraints,” said Howard.

Construction is not expected to begin for at least a year.
